Costa Rica
The Past:
We’ve been down countless times in the past 10 years, initially working as beach lifeguards, then holding courses in ocean lifesaving, and later holding courses in wilderness first aid. Check out this article published on the Inertia to get an idea of what we did in the early days.
The Present:
First-responders in Costa Rica are first-on-scene to some of the gnarliest stuff imaginable. We’ve seen our colleagues become paralyzed upon arrival on-scene, due to a lack of advanced medical knowledge. We’re working to build our curriculum to offer more specific training for Costa Rican first-responders. Current preparations include working on our medical Spanish skills and building the curricular offers to include more advanced on-scene treatment of trauma patients.
The Future:
A long awaited return to Costa Rica is in the front of our mind. One of our guides is tying up some loose ends back at home with the plan of bumming it, reconnecting with old buddies and making some new connections in Central America. The next time we plan a larger trip to Costa Rica, we’d love to hold some WFA courses in new locations as well as a WFR in places where we’ve already held courses.
